The Grand Cupathon
Most of you reading this who come from the spring community will know who IaMaCuP is. Some of you may have come from even further afar and recognize Unknown Files. You may even be IaMaCuP himself
So one day some guy with that name popped up in the spring lobby. He decided he liked spring and he also had plenty of server space and bandwidth to share and offered to host files! This was music to the developers ears who were dealing with the file universe fiasco. File Universe wanted adverts in the spring lobby to fund their bandwidth costs. Nexus was bleeding cash like mad as tasclients internal downloader bypassed all the adverts leeching his bandwidth at an enormous rate. So Unknown Files was put in charge and File universes dominance of spring file hosting ended.
Cuppy started hosting websites for the community, running bots, he even hosted this website and cookiebot. All was good! All of springs files were hosted in one single pretty site.
But alas things were not all rosey.
UF was rebuilt from scratch! and things worked well for a while but iamacup eventually grew tired of it and started work on yet another rewrite. Cuppy started getting irate at the people he had surrounded himself by. It seems he could dish it out but he couldn’t take it, and the lulz got the better of him. Rather than talk things through with people he waited until it got too much and attacked them.
A prime example of this is when I was booted off his servers and my bot removed. The events leading up to this involved cuppy programming back doors into the bot, crashing it, and teaching smug clan how to exploit it to attack innocent users. He was caught red handed chatting about it in #uf. Tobi had suggested I make cookiebot log all traffic to a file in order to figure out who was behind the exploit and how to fix it when I found logged chat in #uf of iamacup boasting of his attacks.
Other examples of cuppy behaving badly are the php scripts he wrote and handed out that would crash the lobby server when ran, and he ran it several times successfully, the bot he wrote for flooding people, and the time he abused a protocol exploit peet had found. However the community continued to adore him for although he was hardly an angel by any standards, he provided oodles of bandwidth, which kept the masses happy. But alas bugs rose up in his file site, and rather than fix them, he deployed the new rewrite out early. This as it turns out was disastrous. Heavy usage of javascript via a library he used extensively resulted in hiccups and bugs that people did not like, never mind a heavy distaste for all things javascript. His javascript detection code also blocked out the site for many users completely.
As the bugs for the new site rolled in iamacup became increasingly distant. He eventually advertised for a new administrator and claimed university coursework was taking its toll. You can see the pictures of him drunk at parties on facebook, and it should be noted I was blocked by him on facebook as soon as I pointed this out.
A new administrator was picked, with aegis or joanin being the finalists. Joanin was chosen and he was to be given the keys to the kingdom to run UF. But before he received anything UF went down and iamacup disappeared. Attempts to contact him fell on death ears. Spring had relied on UF totally for file hosting and now it was gone there was a great rush to fill the void left behind. Many maps and mods where inaccessible, and many lua widgets are still lost even today. 6 file sites rose up in its place.
But that’s where everyone thinks it ends….
I find myself in the lobby (wed 25th), and there’s talk of a smurf of iamacup called JimtheSquirrel. Having been ousted he revealed himself and claimed he had given joanin all the passwords he’d ever need months before he went (despite only advertising for a new admin 2 weeks before he went), of which you can see the logs of this claim by iamacup here, and joanins lack of access on msn logs here. He then accused myself of smurfing as joanin in order to steal UF, and disappeared but not before trying to throw a few put downs.
We know this because it was proven by Decimator and neddiedrow in #main and then iamacup admitted to it. The log of this can be found here. Oddly enough as you can see in the log, iamacup was only caught because neddiedrow booted him off the server for com bombing in games with new players using new accounts registered for that sole purpose.
So there you have it. IaMaCuP is still at large in this community in hiding, if you see him, do give him a kick up the arse while your at it. I expect iamacup may decided to DOS this site or start posting accusations in response to make me seem stupid, or try and throw put downs at me such as those about my degree course he likes so much (which you can see logs of here), but Im sure in doing so he’ll incur the wrath of the spring community to which he did so much damage.
It may be noted that when the link to this blogpost was posted on this site, Peet took it down claiming it to be pure unproven slander, the same peet who originally told me about iamacups backdoor on cookiebot. I’ve thus edited this blogpost to include links to logs where appropriate and I will continue to add proof. None of this is slander, none of it is fiction, it is all proven, and eitherway its on my site, my blog. Having explained that peet claimed this blogpost was pornographic.
